This earthquake happened on the 18 April. 1906, and had an estimated 3435 deaths. Strectching to roughly 5 miles underground and 296 miles in radius. Roughly 400 deaths were reported at the time but after the resulting fire, a further 3000 people were reported to be dead or missing. The fire that happened caused about 90% of the damage caused to the city. San Francisco's government payed back the insurance of the damage to the houses effected by fire, but not to houses only effected by the earthquakes, since fires effected most of the buildings.
